What is "Paleta" A Paleta is the spanish word for a frozen fruity treat, similar to a popsicle. Paleterias often have an amazing assortment of delicious flavors and brightly colored icy treats that are hard to resist. I have many fond memories of seeking out Paleterias on our family trips to Mexico. I named my jewelry brand "Paleta" because I hope these designs are just as hard to resist and just as delicious to look at. Each piece of jewelry is handmade by artisans in Mexico and lovingly designed in my studio among the rolling hills of Northern California.
How Paleta came to be In early 2015 I began working for Far Fetched Jewelry in Sebastopol, California. While there, I had the privilege of working closely with a talented group of artisans located in Taxco, Mexico; a historic town known for its silver mining. As a team, we collaborated on the creation, design, and production of mixed-metal jewelry, which was meticulously handcrafted by the artisans according to my specifications. Beginning in 2020, the company underwent several changes, closing the Sebastopol location, then the wholesale division and eventually the design department.
While seeking out a new career path I could not let go of my connection to the artisans, whom I had built a special working relationship with. I had met their families. spent time with them in their workshops and was always astonished by their craftmanship. With the encouragement of friends and family I decided to start Paleta and slowly build a boutique jewelry brand, showcasing the artisan skills from Mexico with the lovely treasures from our world.
I hope you will enjoy these designs as much as I enjoyed designing them.
Thank you for visiting my Paleta! Jessie Hollibaugh
